What is Mesquite Root?
Mesquite Root is developed and maintained by Foxy Ninja Studios in partnership with Mesquite.cc, LLC. The app is a professional positioning sensor that works with Mesquite Mocap dongles, using your phone's advanced sensors to provide precise position and orientation tracking for full-body motion capture on iOS and Android.
System Requirements
🛠 Hardware
Mesquite Root requires a Mesquite Mocap dongle to function. The app cannot be used standalone.
📱 iOS Requirements
iPhone 6S or later with iOS 14.0 or later. iPhone 12 or newer recommended for optimal performance.
🤖 Android Requirements
Android 9.0 or later. Android 12 or newer recommended for optimal performance and sensor accuracy.
Getting Started - Quick Steps
Power On Dongle
Power on your Mesquite Mocap dongle and wait for the WiFi network to appear
Connect to WiFi
Connect your phone to the Mesquite WiFi network (network name: MM-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX, password: 123456789)
Launch App
Launch Mesquite Root app on your iOS or Android phone
Mount Phone
Mount your phone on your hip using the provided mounting clip
Start Web App
Open Mesquite Mocap web application on your computer or tablet
Configure Setup
Configure your motion capture setup in the web application
Begin Capture
Begin motion capture - Mesquite Root will automatically stream positioning data to your dongle
Troubleshooting
❌ App shows "DISCONNECTED"
- Ensure your iPhone is connected to the Mesquite WiFi network (not cellular data)
- Verify the WiFi network name matches the pattern MM-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
- Check that the Mesquite dongle is powered on
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi network
📊 Poor tracking quality
- Ensure good lighting conditions for camera-based features
- Avoid featureless environments (blank walls, uniform floors)
- Keep phone camera lens and sensors clean
- Ensure phone has gyroscope and accelerometer sensors enabled
- Reduce rapid movements during initial calibration phase
🔋 Battery drains quickly
- Lower screen brightness using the in-app slider
- Enable Low Power Mode in iPhone settings before starting capture
- Consider using an external battery pack for extended sessions
